THE PIG ROAST RUGBY TOURNAMENT 2010

The Jacks traveled to Riverside, Ca to face off against our first opponent at 9:50 am.

The Jacks played against Beaumont, who just won a national championship at D.III level a year ago.

Beaumont won 21-0 over the Jacks.

Next, the Jacks played the University of California Riverside in a hard fought match.
UCR is in a D.III collegiate level which means this club is at an advantage because of the level of play they are already at.
UCR won 15-0 over the Jacks.

As grueling as this competition is turning out to be for the Jacks, we would find the “try line” in the last match of the day.
The Jacks faced off against an opponent that we will see in league play the "Dead Rabbits" from Apple Valley.

The game was exciting and well played on both sides of the ball.
Big forward, Neil Jones went rumbling for a score in the trenches early in the first half. The packs first score of the pre-season.
Following in the second half, Nathan Morgenstein took the ball in from 15 meters out and ran through two would be tacklers for five closing the gap towards the end of the match.
It’s great to see the big boys get a score and to match them, the pretty boys get a score, showing each other we are doing our job to the last whistle.

Apple Valley would go on to win the match, 13-10 over the Jacks.
Overall each Jack rugger had a single moment of brilliance or greatness, by rucking over, taking the ball into contact, and punishing their opponent in open space. We have 10 players that have never played rugby ever in this tournament and they learned a lot and shared in the brutal thuds felt the next day.

The Pig Roast Tournament was fun and exciting; hopefully we can bring this charge into league play in early January.
